Under the Aqueduct

Under the Aqueduct

A scene viewed from Avoncliff station, a short distance to the west of Bradford-on-Avon in Wiltshire. Class 158 DMU no. 158960 of Great Western Railway (but still in FGW livery) approaches the station from the direction of Bath. This was 1F17, a service from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour on the early afternoon of Monday 30 October 2017. The train is about to pass underneath the Avoncliff Aqueduct, which carries the Kennet and Avon Canal over the River Avon and the Bath to Westbury railway line. This structure was built between 1797 and 1801 and is a Grade II* listed building.
