The 'New' Blaenavon

The 'New' Blaenavon

This image depicts RSH 0-6-0 PT no 9466, a guest locomotive at the 2012 P&BR Steam Gala, seen from the site of Big Pit station. It is banked on this climb from Blaenavon High Level station by resident Bagnall 0-4-0ST no 19.
The view here shows the change in the industrial landscape of the Welsh Valleys over time, from the stone buildings typical of the Blaenavon UNESCO World Heritage Site to the 'sheds' of modern industry. I doubt that UNESCO will 'list' the latter in the years to come.
