'Lord Nelson' approaching Alresford

'Lord Nelson' approaching Alresford

Designed by Richard Maunsell (CME of the Southern Railway), 'Lord Nelson' is the sole survivor of sixteen in the class of fast passenger locomotives after which it is named. It entered service in 1926 and was withdrawn in 1962. It achieved a total mileage of 1,350,000 during this working life.
It is seen here on the approach to Alresford, close to the bridge over the B3047 road to the east of the town. It bears the distinctive 'Malachite Green' Southern Railway livery.
