"Once upon a time..."

...this was a railway bridge, the Ashton Swing Bridge in fact. The line here formed part of an extensive network serving Bristol Docks. The bridge was fixed in 1959 and the railway eventually closed in August 1965, with the tracks being lifted shortly afterwards. Today the refurbished bridge is a cycleway and part of the Bristol Metrobus network, although buses do not run here at present due to the collapse of part of the riverbank at Cumberland Road. This has also prevented the operation of the larger part of the Bristol Harbour Railway heritage line. On a sunny August afternoon it is a good place to play with the light and shadows.
