Ratcliffe on Soar power station
This Nottinghamshire power station was made famous (in a photographic sense) in the 1980's by Michael Kenna. It has more recently been the scene of large scale environmental protests, as the station burns coal. Within ten minutes of arriving in the locality, and whilst standing on a public road, we were visited by the station security staff (G4S). They tried to tell us firstly that photography was not allowed, and then that we needed a permit. Upon being told that they were incorrect on both counts they politely requested our personal details, which we equally politely refused to give. Knowing that they had no authority in this situation, and having had their bluff called, they backed off.
Our message is: DO NOT be intimidated in such situations. Stand up for photographers rights.
