A Street in Erice
The ancient walled town of Erice stands at 750 metres above sea level, a short distance north east of Trapani. It has a distinctive microclimate, often shrouded in cloud whilst the coast below basks in blazing sunshine, as on the day that we visited. Erice has succumbed to modern tourist 'tat', but retains several streets that display ancient charm and interest. The drive up to the town from the coast is truly spectacular.
